The Lagos State Police Command has announced the immediate withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) from traffic control and enforcement duties across the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, directed the complete removal of the unit from all traffic-related operations as part of efforts to streamline traffic management and enhance professionalism and accountability in the discharge of duties.
The Command clarified that while the Taskforce has been relieved of traffic responsibilities, its other operational mandates remain fully in force.
According to the police, the directive is aimed at ensuring clarity in traffic management operations and preventing overlapping responsibilities among enforcement agencies operating within Lagos State.
The Command also advised members of the public to note that the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit is not the only Taskforce operating within the state. Residents and motorists were therefore urged to verify the identity of personnel and agencies before making allegations, particularly in matters relating to traffic enforcement.
The police further reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring that all operations are conducted in line with established laws and best practices.
Members of the public were encouraged to remain law-abiding and cooperate with legitimate security agencies.
