Six dead as truck rams into vehicle in Epe

A fully loaded truck, On Monday rammed into a parked Toyota Camry, commercial tricycle and Aiyetoro Market Complex in Epe,Lagos leaving 6 dead and others severally injured as at the time of this report.


The incident occurred as the truck descended from Ita-Opo/Paramount losing control due to break failure .


According to an eye witness,the truck fully loaded with cement was working with an empty fuel tank, depriving it’s functionality.


” The truck was coming from paramount hill descending towards Aiyetoro with full speed,the traffic light at Aiyetoro gave indication to move but with full force, the truck ram into commercial tricycles queued up for their daily activity and other vehicles including a parked Toyota and Aiyetoro Market”. He explained.


One of National Union of Road Transport Workers ( NURTW) Chairman ,Epe, Mr Julius Oluwo said the incident is indeed a tragedy on a Monday morning leaving many in dismay.


Mr Oluwo, while lamenting about the incident explained that it happened in the early hours of Monday.


“We were just a stone throw from where the incident occurred. Suddenly, we noticed the truck moved to the other side. It was supposed to stop at the traffic light, it couldn’t because it had a break failure. The truck just went overboard. 5 individuals were removed immediately under the truck and others that were hit were immediately rushed down to the General hospital.” He said.


Cordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria ,EPE, Ibrahim Moibi stated that truck coming down from Ita-Opo heading towards Dangote refinery with a full load of 900 bags of cement.


“The truck heading to Dangote refinery was fully loaded with 900 bags of cement, the truck hit some shops at Aiyetoro Market about 4/5 shops. 4 casualties are presently at the General hospital, 6 confirmed dead including a technical student,”he explained.
