A devastating incident occurred when a Mojec staff was electrocuted in Magodo area of Lagos State leaving a community in shock.
An Electrical expert and Contract Staff of Mojec Meter Service Hub (MSH), Akin Oluwaseni popularly called Seni was electrocuted while attempting to fix wiring connections at UNILAG Estate.
According to eyewitnesses, the tragic incident occurred at approximately 5 pm on January 1.
Residents in the estate had requested Sheni’s services after experiencing a power outage. Unknown to Seni, the electricity was restored while he was still working on the wiring connections resulting in his electrocution.
The Supervisor to The deceased who is also a staff of Mojec Meter Service Hub (MSH), Mr Olubi smith explained that he was disheartened at the turn out of the event.
Mr Smith admitted that the deceased act was not directly from the company but his own person side hustle, highlighting that the deceased was a very diligent and smart staff who have been with the company for over 8 years.
The supervisor said : “when I got to the location I noticed that there was light on the neutral cable which is very odd. Ikeja electricity claimed they’ve worked on the transformer before ,if the due diligence was actually done there shouldn’t be light on neutral that will require the customer to call on another electrician”,he said.
“The pole was just 220 which is a normal pole that we do work on but what make the work difficult for Seni was because security light and Internet cable were all fused together on the pole which make it difficult to come down or operate on it. Internet cables are WLAN which are meant to pass through underground not through the pole”
He lamented that though the deceased made use of an aluminium ladder instead of fibre but was fully kitted except for an head helmet but as God wants it he passed on during the proces of work but he’s not just a road side or any electrician he was a certified one.
A resident, who plead anonymous while describing the horrific scene said: “He was called to fix some wiring connections and immediately got to work when he arrived. It was while he was fixing it that the light was restored to the neutral wire. That was how he got electrocuted.”
Despite efforts to save him, Seni’s body was eventually lowered to the ground, where he was confirmed dead. The incident was quickly reported to the police, and emergency responders were alerted.
A childhood friend of the deceased, Adedokun Olayinka said this even really saddened our heart as everyone are celebrating the new year.
Olayinka described the deceased as a cool, kind and easy going individual.
He said :” It’s low tension not high tension and he is with his ppe hand gloves but not complete. We are pained by the loss of our dear friend and brother Seni who left his newly wedded wife and a baby.
The deceased will be laid to rest today (Friday) at 2 pm at the Ayobo Cemetery.
The deceased was succeeded by his awife and a year old child.
