The Anambra State Government has dismissed eight operatives of the Agunechemba Security outfit following their brutal assault and public humiliation of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Miss Jennifer Elobor.
The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, announced the dismissal at the agency’s headquarters in Awka on Wednesday.
Emeakayi explained that the operatives attacked Elobor on Tuesday while claiming to be pursuing suspected cultists—an action he described as “totally outside the mandate of the agency and utterly condemnable.”
He stressed that the Soludo administration has zero tolerance for unprofessional conduct, brutality, or abuse of office by security operatives.
“Any officer found guilty of misconduct will face immediate dismissal and prosecution. The government will not condone acts that undermine human rights and public trust,” he said.
The state government said the dismissed operatives would be handed over to the police for prosecution, despite appeals from the victim’s family and NYSC officials for an amicable resolution.
In a move to support the victim, the government has settled her medical bills, replaced her damaged belongings—including a laptop and phone—and tendered a public apology to her family, the NYSC, and the general public.
Emeakayi assured that the incident would serve as a turning point in reforming community security operations in Anambra State.
“This government is committed to professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights in all security engagements,” he added.
As of press time, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, had not responded to calls or messages regarding the transfer of the dismissed operatives for prosecution.
