Family Warns Against Unauthorized Land Sales in Abomiti-Nla, Petitions Lagos Assembly

The Awojiya family descendants in Epe Local Government Area have petitioned the Lagos State House of Assembly, rejecting the representation of certain individuals over the management of their family land in the Abomiti-Nla resettlement area.

They also issued a strong warning to potential land buyers against unauthorized sales and purchase of family land located in Abomiti-Nla, one of the historic villages under the Abomiti zone in Epe, Lagos State.

The family, which represents one of the founding settlers of Abomiti-Nla, stated that the land in question forms part of the Abomiti zone, comprising 13 historic villages, including Abomiti-Nla, Igbo-Apawa, Onigbagbo, Abaoyinbo, Fowotera, Araromi, Take/Bolorunduro, Imogo, Imafon, Ofin Agelege, Ofin Onito, Oke Oke, and Ayesan.

In a statement signed by the family Head, Alhaji Kamoru Salami and Family Acting secretary Me Salami Mustapha, the descendants cautioned that any land transaction carried out without the collective approval of the family would be declared null and void.

He emphasized that the warning became necessary following repeated cases of individuals selling portions of the family land without proper authorization.

Salami stated that the aftermath of the meeting held on September 27, 2025, the family unanimously resolved to safeguard its ancestral heritage and maintain transparency in all land-related matters.

The meeting resolutions were; land sold without the agreement of the entire family stands invalid, buyers present official documentation showing the signed minutes of the September 27 meeting for verification,No portion of the family’s land is currently available for sale.

“The family reserves the right to take legal action against anyone or group involved in illegal sales. The family will act against anyone disrupting the community’s peace or electoral activities through illegal land transactions.” He added .

Furthermore, the family submitted a petition to the Lagos State House of Assembly, seeking intervention over alleged mismanagement of their resettlement land by certain individuals.

In a petition submitted to the Lagos State House of Assembly titled “Rejection of Representation by Certain Individuals in Awojiya Family, Iberikodo Quarters, Epe, Lagos State,” the concerned members alleged that seven individuals have been mismanaging and selling portions of the family’s resettlement land without the knowledge or consent of the majority of family members.

The individuals listed in the petition include Mr. Ganiu Adekunle Shanu, Bale Anibi Hakeem, Bale Lawal Mukaila, Bale Ambali Rasak, Bale Yesiru Alausa, Mr. Shino Ishoton, and Mrs. Saliu Okulu.

According to the report, the land in question was originally acquired by the Lagos State Government for the development of the Lekki Free Trade Zone, and a resettlement allocation of 43.904 acres was provided to the Awojiya family as compensation.

The family thereby warn potential land buyers and estate developers to desist from illegal transactions involving their ancestral land.

“We warn potential land buyers to exercise caution when dealing with individuals who claim to represent our family. Any transactions conducted without our unanimous agreement will be considered invalid, and we will take necessary legal action to protect our interests.”
