The Erelu Ngozi Adeleke In collaboration with Sportgig International and Osun state table tennis association hosted the maiden edition of the female table tennis championship for secondary school students in Osun state.
Sportgig International is an outfit which manages athletes and sporting events.
The event commenced today, 28th of May at Michael and Felicia Alabi tennis court, Osogbo stadium where schools from Osogbo and its environs were in attendance for the opening ceremony.
The championship were supported by the office of the first lady of Osun state Her Excellency Mrs Ngozi Adeleke.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of Sportgig International,Mr Olayinka Olawole , the purpose of the event is to give opportunities to the female athletes at young age to discover their talents and prove to the world what they can do.
Fatimo Kazeem from St.James grammar school Osogbo versus Martha Oluwatukesi representing Osogbo grammar school kickoff the game, Fatimo Kazeem wins the match by (11-5)-(11-3) wins the two straight set.
In the second match where Zainab Omotosho from Baptist high school lost to Azeez Ifabiyi from St James grammar school by (4-11)-(2-11) win the two straight set. Kazeem Fatimo also defeated her counterpart from Anglican grammar school Adeshina Rakibat by (11-3)-(11-1) to win the two straight set.
Dignitaries present were; Permanent Secretary Ministry of Sports ,Mr Deji Olawumi ;Osun FA Chairman Mr Sola Fanawopo ; Representative of Osun state First Lady Mrs Mariam shittu; Representative Checkers Custard Mr Yemi Adeniyi .
The championship will continue on Thursday 30th of May, while the finals will take place on Monday 3rd of June, at the same venue.
