The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has intensified efforts to address flooding challenges across the council area through strategic engagement with contractors and on-the-spot assessment of critical drainage and road infrastructure projects.
As part of measures to mitigate flood risks and improve environmental safety, Aroyewun held a high-level meeting with the management of Hi-Tech Construction Company, the contractor handling the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way to Ginti Road project, before embarking on an extensive inspection tour of flood-prone communities within the LCDA.
During the meeting at the chairman’s office, Hi-Tech Construction’s Project Manager, Mr. Dandre Gabar, provided updates on the progress of ongoing road and bridge projects in the area.
According to the contractor, the bridge under construction is currently in its final phase and remains on track for completion by September 2026. The company also disclosed plans to install speed breakers across construction lanes, while additional traffic-calming measures will be introduced around schools and major junctions to improve road safety.
Gabar further noted that excavation works at the Laara section of the road project are nearing completion, while construction activities on the Meri Road corridor are progressing in phases despite weather-related challenges.
In a bid to strengthen drainage infrastructure and reduce flooding, Aroyewun requested the construction firm to cover drainage channels along Oba Molaja Ogunlewe Road, Awotunde Lane, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Following the meeting, the chairman, accompanied by Gabar, members of his cabinet and senior officials, conducted inspections of several flood-prone locations across Igbogbo and adjoining communities.
The sites visited included Ayegbami (Olubushe), Debola Faniyi Street, Oba Molaja Road (Awotunde/Club 24), Meri Road, Olorunfunmi Basorun Crescent, Moshood Hassan Street, Orija Jogun Street, Victory Close, and the ongoing Afa Bridge construction site in Igbe Laara.
During the inspection, officials assessed drainage conditions and identified immediate interventions aimed at improving water channelisation and preventing recurrent flooding in affected neighbourhoods.
Speaking after the tour, Aroyewun commended Hi-Tech Construction Company for its cooperation and commitment to delivering critical infrastructure projects within the LCDA.
He reassured residents that his administration would continue to prioritise environmental sustainability and public safety.
“I want to assure the good people of IBLCDA that we will not relent in doing what is necessary. Our priority is to create a safer, cleaner and flood-resilient environment. We are intensifying efforts to improve water channelisation across our communities,” he said.
The chairman reiterated that the interventions align with his administration’s GLORY Agenda, which focuses on infrastructure development, environmental management and the overall well-being of residents.
