Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), distinguished lawyer and scholar, has died at the age of 92.

Kasunmu died peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, August 9, 2026, according to a statement issued by his family.

The deceased was a member of the 1953 set of Baptist Academy and served as a trustee of the Baptist Academy Old Students Association (BAOSA).

The family, while announcing his death, described Kasunmu as a respected scholar, mentor and patriarch whose life was defined by wisdom, integrity and service.

It said the late legal scholar made a lasting impact on many people through his contributions to law, education and humanity.

His death was also announced by the Global President of BAOSA, Olumide Ajomale, in a statement issued on behalf of the association’s National Executive Council.

Ajomale described Kasunmu as a prominent figure in law, scholarship and national development, stressing his contributions as a mentor, academic and advocate.

BAOSA said Kasunmu represented the core values associated with Baptist Academy, particularly integrity, discipline and service.

The association also recalled that Kasunmu was among 170 distinguished old students recognised with the BAOSA Order of Excellence Award during the institution’s 170th Founders Day celebration last year.

According to the association, the award recognised his contributions and distinguished record as an alumnus of the institution.

BAOSA said Kasunmu’s influence extended beyond his professional career, noting that his commitment to mentorship, learning and excellence had touched many lives.

It expressed solace in the quality of life he lived and the positive impact he made through his commitment to law, education and service to humanity.

Following his death, BAOSA announced a 48-hour period dedicated to remembering and celebrating the late professor.

In a notice signed by its Communication Officer, Tunji Akingbade, the association temporarily restricted posting on its platform and asked members to dedicate their contributions to tributes, personal recollections, photographs and stories about Kasunmu.

The tribute period, the association said, was intended to provide members with an opportunity to collectively reflect on his life, achievements and enduring legacy.

Normal posting on the platform is scheduled to resume at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

BAOSA urged its old students across the world to remember the Kasunmu family in their prayers during the mourning period.

The family said details of the funeral arrangements would be communicated in due course.
