The lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Babajimi Benson, has welcomed the approval for the establishment of a Command Secondary School at the 174 Battalion, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Jimi Benson, who disclosed this in a statement, described the approval as a landmark development that would expand access to quality and affordable education for children of military personnel, their families and residents of adjoining communities.

He said he personally received the approval, describing it as a demonstration of what purposeful leadership could achieve when genuine community needs were identified and addressed.

According to him, the decision by the Nigerian Army to approve the school underscores the importance of accessible education to children within the barracks and surrounding communities, while also contributing to the welfare and morale of military personnel and their families.

Benson expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his leadership and commitment to initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.

He also commended the Chief of Army Staff for approving the initiative and prioritising educational facilities and the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel and their families in line with his Command Philosophy.

The lawmaker extended special appreciation to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his continued support for educational development in the state.

Benson said the approval was a moment of excitement and gratitude for the people of Ikorodu, noting that the school would serve not only military families but also constitute an important educational asset to the wider community.

“Our people are ready to support its successful take-off and sustainability,” he said.

The lawmaker described the project as more than the establishment of a school, saying it represented an investment in children, human capital development and the families of those serving the nation.

He added that the initiative was consistent with the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its emphasis on education, human capital development and the welfare of service personnel.

“Education is an investment in the future. Supporting service families strengthens the morale of our Armed Forces. Investing in Ikorodu is investing in Lagos and Nigeria,” Benson said.

He expressed optimism that the Command Secondary School, 174 Battalion, would become a centre of academic excellence, discipline, character and opportunity for generations of students.
