The Lagos State Government has arrested a 56-year-old man, Mr. John Ehidreme, for allegedly dumping refuse into a drainage channel in Ikorodu, in violation of the state’s environmental sanitation laws.

The suspect was apprehended earlier on Monday at No. 18 Oluoga, Ikorodu, during ongoing enforcement efforts aimed at promoting a cleaner and flood-free environment across the state.

The government said indiscriminate disposal of waste into drainage channels remains a serious environmental offence, warning that the practice obstructs the free flow of stormwater, contributes to flooding and poses significant public health and environmental risks.

Reaffirming its commitment to enforcing environmental regulations, the state government urged residents to desist from illegal waste disposal and embrace responsible sanitation practices.

It also advised members of the public to dispose of their refuse only through approved waste management facilities and operators, stressing that offenders would continue to face the full weight of the law.

The government reiterated that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility and called on residents to support ongoing efforts to build a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Lagos.
